WELLBEING – PHYSICAL AND MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT IN SCHOOLS

One of the areas I’m most passionate about is running Wellbeing sessions for secondary school pupils.

The teenage years are some of the most tumultuous times of our lives. A teenager can often face tough times as they navigate a densely packed schedule and can find themselves overwhelmed or stressed, lacking in confidence and direction. Workload management, exam pressure, peer pressure plus dealing with hormonal changes and self-identity exploration whilst trying to enjoy social time and activities can be exhausting.

Many parents bring their children to my clinic with a variety of symptoms including sleep disruption, digestive issues, and headaches, with the baseline cause for most being stress and anxiety. Therefore, it is imperative to link both physical and emotional health to fully support our children. I can help you both understand what’s going on and help create positive coping strategies.

Why use Thrive?

I am trained in Kinesiology, Nutrition, Children and Young People’s Mental Health and am a Youth Mental Health First Aider. I am also currently training in Counselling to widen my skillset.

As someone who spent her teenage years trapped in the cycle of perfectionism, experiencing all manner of physical and emotional symptoms due to living in this stressed state (exhaustion, broken sleep, unexplained tummy aches, mouth ulcers and crying frequently to name a few), before enduring years of M.E./Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, it’s a privilege to help share both physical and emotional wellbeing knowledge and support to teenagers.

I work with schools to help the students develop their own toolkit of coping strategies to use to navigate the complexities of teenage life.

Just imagine:

  • What if we could understand our bodies and how we respond to situations?
  • What if we could learn a wide range of coping mechanisms to help us with the different challenges we will face?
  • What if we could learn to practice positive thought framing and use Emotional Freedom Technique (tapping) to help calm our minds?

Topics include:

  • Foundations of Wellbeing (nutrition, sleep, activity, rest)
  • Mental health support
  • Managing Stress and Anxiety
  • Perfectionism
  • Self Esteem and Confidence boosting
  • Mindset – transforming negative thoughts into positive thoughts
  • Emotional Freedom Technique (tapping)
  • Chimp Brain (mind monkey) thought management
  • Finding your values
  • Regulating Emotions
  • Sleep

Every session is tailored to your students having discussed their needs during our consultation process.

Session length:

Recurring sessions and specialist workshops are available:

  • 1 hour
  • 2 hour
  • All-day wellbeing event

A 1 hour recurring PSHE lesson or a 2 hour workshop have worked well, as has running multiple sessions during a 2 day wellbeing event.

Booking into recurring sessions is most helpful to the students as they gain trust and confidence with me as their Wellbeing Practitioner and allows us to take deep dives into specific topics of interest. As we know repetition is key to learning and helping them manage their emotions.

Next steps:

I’d be delighted to come to your school and work with you to decide which of the available topics would be most relevant to your students. If you’d like to know more or to book in for a consultation, please contact me directly to discuss further by emailing [email protected]
